Also why I'm a huge proponent of doing the majority of "easy" maintenance..


...jobs myself. I always tell people to buy a service manual, look at the job, then decide if you want to tackle it yourself or take it to a mechanic. There are a lot of jobs that are extremely simple and easy to do yourself.

That's why when I hear people saying BMWs (or insert any automobile brand) are so expensive to maintain..."I just spent $900 for a brake job." Guess what, you could have purchased OEM parts and done it yourself for well less than half that cost. Go good quality aftermarket, and it's probably 1/3 that cost. The most important factor is you know it was done correctly.

Stay on top of the "routine maintenance" and odds are you car will last significantly longer...so do those oil changes & automatic transmission services!
